SALON THALIA UPDATE!

Latest news from your favorite salon:

As many of you are aware, Salon Thalia has been undergoing some major changes these last few months. It all started in February, when a water pipe on the third floor of the building broke, causing water to come pouring in through our ceiling. Unfortunately, the leak was not contained to a little area of our salon, but most of the entire first floor. Here’s just a sample of the salon after most of the water had drained out…

We have been tirelessly working with contractors and repair companies to not only fix this damage, but to improve on the design of the space. Some of you have noticed countless workers coming in and out of the building trying to repair the salon to get it into working order. In the meantime, while we could only use the front desk retail space, we have been able to work, temporarily, out of two other salons, both of which are only a half block from Thalia:

Dino’s salon, located at 1420 Locust St. in the Academy House, has been so generous to us and has welcomed us with open arms. The time we’ve shared together with the staff in this unique salon has been amazing. New friendships have been formed and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.

AMS salon, at 262 S. 16th St., have also welcomed us into their space without hesitation. The staff there have been so nice to cater to us and help us as we were running around in a frenzy wondering what our next move was. They experienced some trouble with the hot water heater (as it wasn’t able to provide for TWO salons and constant use), and yet through all the struggles and hectic atmosphere, they came through for us when we needed it.

We know it has been hard on these salons, taking us in with no notice and helping us out in our time of need. We are truly grateful and appreciative of their generosity and kindness and will never forget it.

So if you’re wondering where we currently stand, here’s the update…

This week we will be moving back into our own salon. As repairs are still being made, we will only occupy a small portion of the salon until the entire salon is finished. Here’s a sneak peak of what you’ll be seeing when you visit us for your next appointment…

Remember, for the next couple weeks, our stylists are still on a limited schedule (due to limited space) so if you want an appointment, give us a call at 215-790-0200. We can’t wait to host you in our new salon!

Also, stay tuned for an announcement about our GRAND RE-OPENING EVENT!!!

The very basics of shaving

Ever think about moving to a warmer state? Florida? New Mexico? Texas? Costa Rica!?! Anywhere to escape the freezing cold air that stings your face sand hands?

Yea... me neither. Growing up in central Pennsylvania gives you a much needed appreciation to endure the northeast winter weather. It can be stressful, or it can be beautiful. If you wear the right clothes and accessories, the temperature becomes less of a problem, and it all depends on preparation. One part of your body that is much deserving of preparation is your face.
Note this you DIY at-home beard shavers! Make sure you prepare your face before putting an extremely sharp razor blade to it. Start off by steaming it with a wet, hot towel, leaving it on for a minute of two. This will soften the hair and open up the cuticle. Next, apply a pre-shave oil and massage in. This is sometimes enough for some people. For the rest of us, we need a little more prep work. Repeat the process with another steam towel and oil application to soften your beard even further. Then apply your shaving cream (preferably warm) in a circular motion and you're ready to put on your red suit and start climbing down some strangers' chimneys!... no really, you can start your shaving now.

TIP: if you have razor burn or irritation on the crease of your neck, shave WITH the grain of the hair. Even if you shave against the grain for the rest of your face, this is an extremely sensitive area. Do not push hard and I repeat, DO NOT shave against the grain here!

Don't forget to follow up with a toner to close your pores and finish with a fancy smelling moisturizer.

Happy shaving from #ThePhillyBarber

HAIR ROYALTY

With award season quickly approaching we have so much to look forward to in hair trends for 2015. Last week at the golden globes, deep side parts and high gloss waves dominated. In the dull months ahead, there's no better way to brighten up your day than with a fabulous style! If it's illuminating shine you're looking for look no further. We hear The Dutchess of Cambridge turns to Kérastase to keep her mane in check. Our Kérastase in-salon express treatments provide moisture, strength and shine. There's no surprise that Kate Middleton uses these treatments as her go-to. With four different treatments and boosters, we've got the perfect combination for everyone. The express treatments require no down time and will last 6-7 shampoos. In freezing cold temperatures and artificial heat, our treatments are sure to give your hair the TLC it requires. Whether you're attending an event or prepping for the weekend Salon Thalia has got you covered!

'Tis the season to be..... Sexy!

'Tis the season to be..... Sexy!
That's right. You can still be fly in the winter. Most people associate sexiness with the summer. How unfair for winter. True, we're all very bundled, but that doesn't mean our skin can't glow. That also means that hair poking from under our hats can still be lovely.
Sitting at home watching netflix marathons? Why not run your fingers through healthy hair? The way I see it, the harshest part of both extreme seasons, is when your hair and skin need more tlc, but it's also when people are in the salon less. Stick out from the crowd and treat yourself. Add a conditioning service to your appt. Consider a keratin express for strong shiny hair. Whichever you chose, remember not to neglect yourself!
Peace, love, and beautiful hair!
